A tragic incident in Faisalabad’s Tayyaba Town has claimed the life of a four-year-old girl after she fell into an open manhole while playing outside her home.

According to police, the child, identified as Hania Noor, was playing in a residential street when she suddenly went missing. Family members and neighbours immediately began searching for her after she could not be found nearby.

After an extensive search of the area, rescue efforts led to the discovery of her body inside a sewer manhole. Police confirmed that the child had fallen into the uncovered drain and died on the spot.

The incident has triggered grief and anger among local residents, who blamed poor civic management and negligence by developers for the tragedy. Residents said several manholes in the area had either no covers or improperly secured lids, posing a constant threat to children and pedestrians.

Police officials stated that a case has been registered against the developer responsible for the housing scheme. According to the FIR, the developer allegedly covered only some manholes while leaving others open, endangering public safety and violating basic construction safety standards.

Authorities added that further investigation is underway to determine whether municipal oversight failures also contributed to the incident. Officials have assured that those responsible will be held accountable under the law.

The tragic death has once again raised concerns over urban safety hazards, particularly open drains and manholes in residential areas. Citizens and activists have called for strict enforcement of safety regulations, regular inspections, and immediate covering of all open sewage points.

Local residents have demanded urgent action to prevent similar incidents in the future, stressing that such negligence continues to cost innocent lives, especially children playing in neighbourhood streets.
